Every lawn needs a specific amount of water every week to stay healthier. The lawn owner should know how to water the lawn correctly? To maintain your lawn in a lush green state and vigorous you need to observe some smarter methods as described below.
Most people water their lawn far more than they need to especially, after the rain. Over-watering your lawn will cause a shorter root system to develop making it more susceptible to dry conditions and pests.
Be sure to check by municipal by-laws for outdoor water use so if you need to water be sure to water deeply and less frequently to create a healthier and stronger lawn.
Early morning watering
The best time to water is early morning before day time and rise of the temperature because the low-temperature level supports absorption rather than evaporation. If you water your lawn early in the morning it will keep the stress level low for the lawn and keep the turf cooler.
If it is not possible for you to water early in the morning then keep the watering time in the late afternoon. Try to avoid watering in the late evening or at night as evenings and nights are long periods of dampness which increase the chances of disease and fungus.

Ensure soaking quantity in the soil
Soaking the water to 6 inches down in the soil is recommended by the gardening experts. This is the ideal water soaking level to get a healthy grown grass and root system. But also remember that each lawn soil needs to soak different quantities of water in it so, one way to prevent over-watering is to buy a rain gauge.
A rain gauge is inexpensive and tells you exactly how much water your lawn has received, and it let you know that you don’t need to water it at all.
Another way is using a long-blade screwdriver for the water level testing in the soil. Just shove it into the soil and it should go down about 6 inches in the soil easily. But, if you feel it is hard to reach the 6 inches depth then it means that the soil is not soaked properly.
Use sprinklers correctly
If you are using a water sprinkler to water a lawn, position it to only water your lawn and not walkways/driveways beside the lawn that do not need watering.
If you are using an irrigation system to water your lawn, ensure that you are using water sensed labeled controller. It allows you to adjust the watering based on the weather conditions. Some newer technologies like moisture sensors, micro drip systems, and efficient sprinkler heads will dramatically increase your water savings.
In-ground irrigation systems are also suitable for watering the lawn and have a timer that allows you to deliver a precise quantity of water to the soil. Drip irrigation system uses 20-50% less water than the traditional pop-up sprinkler head system. Be sure to also have your in-ground system checked for leaks by a certified irrigation contractor.
Most lawn owners do not want to invest in in-ground irrigation systems. Therefore, experts suggest using revolving and pulsating sprinklers. These sprinklers spray water horizontally with good pressure. These pulsating sprinklers are of two types; one is a flat-based sprinkler that stays on the ground and is portable anywhere in the lawn, and the other type is attachable anywhere in the lawn ground by using a sharp spike.
Remember to use oscillating sprinklers for new grass because the pulsating sprinklers are recommended for mature grass.

Right schedule for watering
Sometimes grass gets the water from the rain, but you usually should water your grass for at least one hour every single week, even if your grass receives a regular amount of rain. People think that grass needs as much water as the other plants, but water for lawn/grass is lesser.
Watering more than enough will make the fungus grow fast and the root system becomes shallow. The sprouting of mushrooms is also a sign that your lawn is overwatered.
The summer season is dry and your lawn will require more quantity of water so you can water it every three to seven days.
Frustrated of lumpy lawn? Here is your problem solved.
Invest in buying a good quality timer and attach it to the spigot to track the duration of watering. Sometimes we get involved in other tasks and forget that we have opened the spigot for watering the lawn. Therefore, getting a timer is a good option that will ring and act as a reminder for you.
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that to maintain and keep your lawn safe and healthy you just need to know special watering techniques and correct ways to perform them. Watering your lawn with an accurate quantity of water is the surety of a sturdy root system that can survive extreme conditions easily.
The best way to prevent the lumpy lawn is to avoid the cause by taking precautionary measures and controlling the problem creators. Furthermore, keep it a little overseeded in humid periods of the year, avoid playing active games like cricket, football, or badminton, keep your pets away from the lawn if they have scrapping habit, use pre-emergent herbicides in your lawn in the early springtime to avoid pest invasion, do not keep heavy furniture in the lawn, and never use a roller to level the lumps.
